Baswedan explores financing cooperation for MRT with EU officials

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Tuesday explored financing cooperation for the next phase of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project with European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Kris Peeters and EU Ambassador to Indonesia Vincent Piket.

“We had a meeting at the MRT office to discuss the financing plan for the next phase of the MRT,” Baswedan informed in Dukuh Atas, here on Tuesday.

The meeting was a follow-up to Baswedan’s visit to Luxembourg two months ago in May to discuss investment in Jakarta’s public transportation.

However, he did not provide details on the potential value of the investment cooperation for the Jakarta MRT construction project, which will be funded by the EU financial institution.

After the meeting, the Jakarta Governor invited the EU officials to take the MRT and visit the Dukuh Atas area, which is currently going viral on social media and has become especially popular among young people.

The EU officials were also invited to visit Kendal Tunnel and taste coffee at an outlet run by business players with disabilities.

Furthermore, Baswedan invited Peeters and Ambassador Piket to walk like models while crossing a road in Dukuh Atas, a location that has recently become a popular gathering place for young people from “SCBD” (Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok) areas.

Earlier, during an eight-day working visit in May 2022, the governor had visited Germany, France, and the United Kingdom to explore cooperation for the development of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), according to a province official.
