Bengkulu Province’s Mukomuko struck by 5.0-magnitude quake

Jakarta (ANTARA) – A 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit Mukomuko District, Bengkulu Province, on Sunday night, though no damage or casualty was reported.

The quake, which struck at 10:56 p.m. local time, was centered 50 kilometers southwest of Mukomuko at a depth of 22 kilometers, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The tremor was felt in the capital of Bengkulu Province at magnitude II-III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale, so it could only be felt by several people and did not have the potential to cause damage.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 is considered to be of moderate intensity and capable of causing considerable damage to land.

Bengkulu is one of the Indonesian provinces prone to earthquakes.
