Buriram: Officials interrogated a BHQ soldier all night, but he remained tight-lipped about being a spy, despite evidence linking him to Hun Sen. After police arrested 36-year-old Cambodian Mr. Win Da in Krasang District, Buriram Province, the home of his Thai wife, Ms. Joy, along with numerous items of evidence, including a gun, a Captain’s military uniform, and several sets of BHQ insignia, the bodyguards for Hun Sen, leading to the belief that he might have been an undercover agent secretly transmitting Thai military movements to Cambodia, they brought him in for questioning. Two security units and Buriram Provincial Police interrogated him throughout the night, spending over 11 hours interrogating him. While Mr. Win denied the accusations of being a spy, admitting only that he had served in the army for nine months, police were not convinced, citing numerous links, including Facebook posts supporting Hun Sen’s work, three mobile phones, and the use of four different names in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Police Major General Narongsak Promtha, Commander of Buriram Provincial Police, revealed that evidence found suggests a possible connection, but a thorough investigation is required to ensure fairness for the accused. This will take time and cannot be disclosed at this time. If proven true, legal action will be taken under Thai law. Police will today take Mr. Win to the Buriram Provincial Court for a preliminary detention order on charges of Firearms Act and illegal immigration.
Ms. Jareerat Phiram, village headman of Village No. 9, Ban Khok Sung, Sriphum Subdistrict, Krasang District, said that Mr. Win has been living in the village for nearly two years and doesn’t work. From what she’s seen, Mr. Win is a friendly person who gets along well with the village’s youth. She previously didn’t think anything of it, as she was a resident of the village. Upon hearing the news, she admitted to being shocked, and deep down, she believed he was a real spy.
