Bhumjaithai MPs Urge Fairness in Political Transfers Amidst Accusations of Revenge

Bangkok: In a charged session of the House of Representatives, Bhumjaithai Party MP Sanong Thep-aksornnarong voiced concerns over recent administrative transfers, urging Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai to prioritize the public’s welfare over perceived political vendettas.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sanong addressed Mr. Phumtham, who also serves as the Minister of Interior, highlighting the transfer of the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration and the Director-General of the Department of Local Administration Promotion. He questioned whether these moves were influenced by the individuals’ ties to Buriram Province, a region associated with Bhumjaithai Party leader and former Interior Minister, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul.

Mr. Sanong suggested that if Mr. Phumtham’s actions were motivated by a desire to undo appointments made by Mr. Anutin, it would necessitate a widespread reshuffle of provincial governors and district chiefs. Such an approach, he warned, would detract from addressing the pressing needs and concerns of citizens. He stressed the importance of a fair-minded approach, particularly given that one of the transferred officials was nearing retirement and had demonstrated commitment by leading significant law enforcement actions.

The session, chaired by House Speaker Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, provided a platform for MPs to deliberate on the implications of these administrative changes and their potential impact on governance and public service.
