Bhumjaithai Party to Submit Draft Constitutional Amendment to House Speaker

Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party is set to submit a draft constitutional amendment to the Speaker of the House of Representatives tomorrow. The party is also planning to meet with the “One Nor-Three Whips” to finalize the date of their policy statement, anticipated to be confirmed by September 25.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, MP for Ubon Ratchathani and spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, announced post-party meeting discussions focused on the constitutional amendment proposal. The submission to the Speaker of the House, scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, will address the selection process for members of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly (CDA), with distinct sections for CDA members and experts. The proposal aligns with interpretations of the Constitutional Court.

The party meeting also covered preparations concerning the government’s policy statement. Coordination with the Speaker of the House, the Opposition Whip, and the Senate is set for tomorrow to outline the meeting framework for the policy statement. The coalition parties have discussed and prepared for the meeting’s format and scope. Importantly, the process will adhere to parliamentary meeting regulations, and there will be no use of the term “bodyguards.” Members will be permitted to discuss policies prepared by the Cabinet, with clarity on the policy statement date expected by Wednesday or Thursday.
