Bangkok: “Bhumtham” has announced plans to close the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) after a meeting with the National Security Council (NSC) confirmed a peaceful situation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, acting as Prime Minister, commented on the situation following claims by Lieutenant General Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the Second Army Region, regarding Wat Ta Kwai. He clarified that there was no breach of the Thai-Cambodian agreement and emphasized that everything should adhere to the agreement terms.
Mr. Bhumtham addressed concerns about potential conflicts with Cambodia, reiterating that no contractual violations had occurred. He confirmed that the military, as the primary party involved, had ensured compliance, thus putting an end to the issue.
He further addressed rumors of unrest along the border, attributing media confusion to fake news. Mr. Phumtham highlighted the importance of the upcoming meeting between the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (CCSA) and the NSC, scheduled for August 13-14, which aims to restore normalcy. He stressed the need to tackle misinformation and urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid unnecessary panic.
Regarding the dissolution of the CCSA, Mr. Bhumtham explained that the decision would depend on assessments by the military and intelligence agencies. If the situation is considered stable, the CCSA will be dissolved. He emphasized the importance of the NSC meeting in making this determination and called for patience until a formal announcement is made.
