Bangkok: “Phumtham” has firmly denied allegations of leveraging US tariffs to influence military strategy, emphasizing that the military is well-informed about all steps taken following the initiation of ceasefire negotiations with Cambodia. He has called for unity and collaboration with the military to address the situation with Cambodia.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, addressed concerns regarding the potential linkage between US tariff negotiations and the ceasefire discussions with Cambodia. He stressed that the focus should be on whether the actions to reduce tariffs are advantageous to Thailand, particularly concerning the ongoing economic crisis. Phumtham confirmed that all parties involved are fully informed of the proceedings. He mentioned that during his meeting with US President Donald Trump, clarifications were made from the outset, with the military being fully aware. Furthermore, he highlighted that the media has not adequately discussed the government’s proactive measures to collaborate with the military, which were initiated during this visit. The discussions included detailed communication about the steps to be taken and the military’s capacity to manage these actions. The military’s recommendations have been documented in the meeting min

Phumtham reiterated that there are no existing issues between the government and the military. He urged against raising unnecessary disputes and highlighted the current focus on combating Cambodia. He emphasized the continued collaboration between the government and the military, noting that a key military figure is currently serving as the Deputy Minister of Defense.
