Bangkok: Bhumtham Wechayachai, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, expressed his astonishment at statements made by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, leader of the Progressive Movement. Thanathorn had asserted that the alleged collusion between the Senate and Khao Kradong had no connection to the government.
According to Thai News Agency, Bhumtham addressed Thanathorn’s remarks, questioning why the Pheu Thai Party government had not taken legal action through the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) if there was indeed any wrongdoing. He pointed out that Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and former Interior Minister, was responsible for the ministry during the two-year period in question. Bhumtham explained that the delay in addressing the issue stemmed from the need for the Land Department to initiate the process, which he had only recently begun. He stressed that it was inaccurate to claim inaction on his or Anutin’s part.
Bhumtham further commented on the public reaction to Thanathorn’s statements, expressing that both he and the public were surprised by such words coming from Thanathorn, who is seen as a spiritual leader of the Prachachon Party. He suggested that Thanathorn should reflect on his statements and their implications, but refrained from further elaboration.
When questioned about the possibility of Thanathorn’s remarks being perceived as supportive of the government rather than opposing it, Bhumtham noted that the media had already posed and answered this question themselves. He chose not to comment further, emphasizing that public actions are remembered, and everyone’s actions are now under scrutiny.
