Bangkok: Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has declared his non-intervention in response to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul’s appeal to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for the arrest of Nattaporn Toprayoon. Nattaporn, a former advisor to the Ombudsman, is implicated in the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative money laundering case, involving 477 million baht from a land sale by Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, the cooperative’s former chairman.
According to Thai News Agency, Phumtham emphasized the importance of following due process, noting that while he and Anutin had recently met, the matter was not on the agenda. Anutin has suggested utilizing administrative forces to assist the DSI if necessary, which some perceive as politically motivated, potentially linked to past allegations of collusion in the senator selection process. Phumtham dismissed these concerns, asserting that discussions remain amicable and the case is solely within the DSI’s jurisdiction.
Phumtham reiterated that the DSI operates under a defined chain of command and that any concerns will be addressed appropriately. He maintains a policy-driven role, refraining from direct involvement in operational matters. Phumtham assured that the DSI will continue to perform its duties without interference, focusing on executing its responsibilities effectively.
