“Big Lek” Leads High-Level Delegation for Crucial GBC Talks in Malaysia

Kuala lumpur: “Big Lek” spearheaded a senior delegation to Malaysia this morning for critical discussions on the General Border Committee (GBC) and Cambodia. This initiative follows a special Cabinet meeting convened yesterday with the National Security Council to review a draft agreement. He stressed that Thailand’s sovereignty and national interests must be upheld in full.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, a member of the Special Task Force for the Administration of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation (SFSB), disclosed that General Nattapol Nakphanit, the Deputy Minister of Defense and Acting Minister of Defense, led the delegation. The team included high-ranking officials such as General Snitchanok Sangkhachan, Permanent Secretary of Defense; General Songwit Noonpakdee, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces; Mr. Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council; General Thongchai Rodyoy, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army; Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Navy; Air Chief Marshal Wachiraphol Muangnoi, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Air Force, along with the Director of the Military Border Affairs Department, Deputy Commander of the 2nd Army Area, and officials from relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior. They traveled to Malaysia for a special meeting of the
GBC between Thailand and Cambodia.

This high-level engagement is a culmination of the meeting of the Thai Secretariat that took place from Monday, August 4th, to Wednesday, August 6th. Mr. Jirayu also mentioned that yesterday’s special Cabinet meeting, in conjunction with the National Security Council, was aimed at reviewing the preparations by Thailand’s GBC negotiating secretariat. Today marks the highest-level GBC meeting between the two nations, he added.
