Surin: “Big Lek” has instructed the collection of forensic evidence following the discovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) at Wat Ta Kwai, confirming its Cambodian origin. The evidence is to be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a formal protest. The situation is perceived as a symbolic demonstration linked to Malaysia’s National Day, and not related to the government transition. He has called for strict measures from the Fourth Army Region Commander and the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC).
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Defense Minister General Nattapol Nakphanit reported the presence of Cambodian soldiers planting IEDs near Prasat Ta Kwai Temple in Surin Province. Investigations confirmed the devices were Cambodian-made. Despite ongoing dialogue efforts, Cambodian soldiers continue to provoke due to a lack of discipline. General Nattapol has ordered the submission of evidence to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the initiation of patrols and surveillance. Immediate action will be taken if further devices are discovered.
General Natthapol assured that the current political instability would not impact border security. The Ministry of Defense, following the 2008 Ministry of Defense Organization Act, has empowered military leaders to safeguard sovereignty using prescribed rules of force. He encouraged the public to remain calm.
Addressing the southern border provinces’ situation, coinciding with Malaysia’s National Day, General Nattapol described the incident as a symbolic power display. Perpetrators often select this day for significant operations. He stressed the importance of strict enforcement by the 4th Army Region Commander and ISOC Region 4 Forward Command.
