The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is supporting the implementation of the G20 Summit by taking anticipatory measures against natural disasters, COVID-19, and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

“The BNPB is ready to support and make the G20 (Summit) on November 15-16 a success,” BNPB head Suharyanto noted in a written statement on Friday.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

The G20 Summit is scheduled to be held in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.

At a coordination meeting for the preparation of infrastructure, logistics, media, communication, security, side event and health at the Renaissance Hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday, Suharyanto remarked that his side is preparing three aspects to support the safe and maximal implementation of the G20 Summit.

The first aspect pertains to taking anticipatory measures against natural disasters through the implementation of tabletop exercises (TTX).

“To anticipate natural disasters, the BNPB has carried out tabletop exercises against potential earthquakes and tsunamis,” he remarked.

The TTX implementation has been prepared since last September, starting from the coordination meeting, design, final planning conference, TTX implementation to reporting and preparing recommendations.

He noted that under the second aspect being prepared, the implementation of health protocols will continue to be monitored to prevent COVID-19 transmission during the G20 Summit.

“We have established a COVID-19 health protocol monitoring command post in the Indonesian Resilience House area located at Puja Mandala Nusa Dua,” he explained.

The agency head remarked that the last aspect being prepared was the development and handling of FMD in Bali.

“Since August 15, Bali Province has been declared as an area with zero reported case of FMD, but we must not be careless. We are implementing stricter biosecurity, vaccination, and testing,” he said.

Suharyanto further explained that the BNPB had established three biosecurity posts in Bali and will set up more posts to strengthen FMD prevention strategies.

“Three posts are in the Gilimanuk, Padang Bai and Benoa ports. We will then add more posts at Ketapang Port, Lembar Port, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport,” he explained.
