Brake Failure Leads to Multi-Vehicle Collision in Phuket’s Darasamutr Tunnel

Phuket: An 18-wheel trailer truck carrying piles experienced brake failure, leading to a significant collision involving ten vehicles at the Darasamutr Intersection underpass in Phuket Province. Four individuals were injured, including three Thai nationals and one Malaysian, as reported by the local authorities.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 12:00 noon on September 23, 2025, prompting a swift response from the Wichit Police Station. Pol. Col. Somsak Thongkliang, Superintendent of Wichit Police Station, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Wutthiwat Liangbunchinda, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, and traffic police officers quickly arrived at the scene to address the heavy traffic congestion caused by the accident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 18-wheeler truck, en route from Ranong Province to Nai Harn Beach in Rawai Subdistrict, experienced brake failure at the tunnel exit. The driver attempted to stop the truck by crashing into the concrete barrier and tunnel wall, but the steep slope led to a collision with multiple vehicles. The crash resulted in significant damage and injuries, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

Witness Mana Noiket recounted the harrowing moment, describing how he narrowly escaped the crash while driving from the Chalong intersection to Thalang District. He attributed his survival and minimal damage to his car to a first-edition Luang Pu Thuat amulet. Meanwhile, a taxi driver involved in the incident reported his car was completely destroyed, although he and his Malaysian passenger only suffered minor injuries.

Police have detained the trailer driver for questioning and are proceeding with legal charges as they continue their investigation into the incident.
