Burmese Team Works to Alleviate Stress Among Vulnerable Groups at Thai-Cambodian Border

Bangkok: The Burmese team has been actively visiting vulnerable groups along the Thai-Cambodian border to alleviate stress and anxiety amid ongoing unrest. Warawut, representing the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center, part of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, disclosed that the Ministry has been closely monitoring the situation. A dedicated team from the Ministry has been dispatched to engage with these groups, providing them with strategies to cope and prepare for various situations.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, shared insights from the Disaster Vulnerable Groups Administration Center. The Department of Social Development and Welfare, under the leadership of Mr. Kantapong Rangsrisawang, has been proactive in supporting local communities. In Surin Province, the Sericulture Settlement guardians have been collaborating with ministry personnel and local residents, offering support and materials such as 400 sandbags to strengthen bunkers. Additionally, coordination efforts are underway to supply soil and sand, with military units utilizing the settlement area to distribute approximately 300 used tires.

In Buriram Province, the Ban Kruat Self-Help Settlement has been preparing by partnering with security agencies to expand and repair bunkers, increasing their number from 70 to 100. Equipment donations, including cement pipes, tires, and sandbags, have facilitated the construction process. Local residents and leaders have been actively participating in rehearsals to ensure readiness in assisting vulnerable groups, with continuous updates provided via the Line group channel by the Ban Kruat District government agency.

The NDRR reported that in Sa Kaeo Province, efforts led by Mr. Phisit Phunpipat, Inspector-General of the Ministry, have focused on engaging with vulnerable groups in Tambon Khlong Nam Sai and Tambon Khao Din. The teams have been providing necessary supplies and emotional support to help alleviate stress. Preparations are in place for potential evacuations, with military units ready to assist, and an evacuation center established to support affected individuals.

Similarly, the DDPM noted that the Trat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit Team has been working with relevant agencies to support vulnerable groups near the Trat Province border. They have assessed the readiness of local surveillance and evacuation plans, finding that the community remains calm and prepared. Initial preparations have been coordinated by district authorities alongside local forces and leaders.
