Cabinet Approves AOT’s Plan to Engage Private Sector in Suvarnabhumi Airport Project

Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) to move forward with selecting private sector partners for a significant project at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The initiative, valued at over 9 billion baht, aims to provide parking lot and ground equipment services alongside ground passenger services and related businesses. This project will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with a 20-year duration, replacing the current operator whose contract expires in September 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, the decision was made during the Cabinet meeting on July 1, 2025. AOT is expected to initiate the process by announcing the invitation to bid in late 2025, in compliance with the Public-Private Partnership Act B.E. 2562. The selection of a second operator ahead of the existing contract’s expiration is designed to enhance the operational capabilities at Suvarnabhumi Airport. This move is anticipated to provide airlines with more choices, mitigate risks in airport operations, and improve service efficiency.

The project is seen as a strategic effort to foster long-term growth in the aviation industry by boosting the airport’s potential to accommodate increasing airline demands. This initiative is not only expected to improve service quality but also to generate significant economic value for the country, aligning with sustainable development goals.
