Bangkok: The government is preparing to propose the appointment of a new Governor for the Bank of Thailand (BOT) at the upcoming Cabinet meeting scheduled for next Tuesday. The confirmation comes from a government spokesman who stated that the Cabinet has not yet finalized the appointment.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that the Ministry of Finance has already submitted a proposal for the new BOT governor to the Cabinet Secretariat. However, the proposal is currently undergoing a review process, and additional information is being prepared before it can be presented to the Cabinet meeting.
Reporters have learned that Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, has put forward a list of candidates for the position. Among the nominees is Mr. Vitai Ratanakorn, the current President of the Government Savings Bank, who is being considered for the role of BOT Governor. If appointed, Mr. Ratanakorn is set to officially begin his term on October 1, succeeding Mr. Sethaput Suthiwatanaruput, whose term as Governor will conclude on September 30, 2025.
