Cambodian Forces Increase Along Thai Border, Violating Agreement

Bangkok: Region 2 Army has reported a noticeable increase in Cambodian military presence along the border, which constitutes a violation of existing agreements. The increased forces have been observed at several border crossings, including An Ma, Phu Makhuea, Satta Som, Prasat Don Tual, Phu Phi, Chong Chom, and Chong Sai Takoo, all situated within the Ban Kruat District. Additionally, an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was seen flying over Thai military positions.

According to Thai News Agency, the 2nd Army Area Operations Center provided a summary of the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border as of July 31, 2025. This summary detailed the strengthening and increased presence of Cambodian forces along the border. There were also reports of UAVs of unknown origin and type being used to survey the deployment of Thai forces in multiple regions.

The areas affected by these developments include Chong An Ma in Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province; Phu Makhuea, Satta Som, Prasat Don Torn, and Phu Phi in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province; Chong Chom in Kab Choeng District, Surin Province; and Chong Sai Taku in Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province. Additionally, 20 Cambodian soldiers surrendered in the Chong Sam Tae area, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, due to a lack of ammunition, leading to their detention and prosecution under Thai law for illegal entry.

Further actions included the medical treatment of two injured detainees at Wirawat Yothin Camp Hospital in Mueang District, Surin Province. A psychiatric evaluation was also recommended due to concerns about the impact of prolonged combat on their mental health. Meanwhile, seized weapons, ammunition, and explosives were handed over to ordnance officers for inspection and evidence preservation, with plans for the destruction of explosive materials by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.
