Cambodian Nationals Flood Ban Laem Border Checkpoint in Mass Exodus

Chanthaburi: Almost trampled to death, more than 30,000 Cambodians flooded the Ban Laem border checkpoint, rushing to bring their belongings back to their country. Officials opened the main gate to rush the flow.

According to Thai News Agency, at 8:30 a.m. on July 27, 2015, in front of the permanent border crossing at Ban Laem Market, Thep Nimit Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, before the checkpoint gates were scheduled to open at 9:00 a.m., tens of thousands of Cambodians were rushing to carry their belongings and wait to cross back to their country. Some people became dizzy and almost trampled each other to death. Thai officials had to open the main gates to quickly clear the area before closing the checkpoint at 3:00 p.m.
