Cambodian Soldiers Pose Continued Threat to Thailand Despite Ceasefire Agreement

Bangkok: The NCPO has reiterated concerns over continued threats from Cambodian soldiers despite a ceasefire agreement between the two countries. The CCSA has reported ongoing incidents of aggression from Cambodian troops, underlining the tense atmosphere along the Thai-Cambodian border.

According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Surasan Kongsiri, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, alongside Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, and Dr. Woratham Chotipityasunon, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, provided an update on the situation. They reported that since the ceasefire negotiations began on July 29, 2025, four separate incidents involving Cambodian forces have occurred, including exchanges of small arms fire and grenade launcher attacks in Sisaket Province.

The CCSA emphasized Thailand’s commitment to peacekeeping and adherence to humanitarian principles, while also asserting the necessity of defending national sovereignty when threatened. They praised the dedication of military and civilian personnel working to protect the country and assist those affected by the conflict.

Rear Admiral Surasan further announced that the Thai side is prepared for the upcoming GBC meeting scheduled for August 4, 2025, and awaits Cambodia’s invitation to discuss further peace efforts. Preliminary discussions between regional commanders have established guidelines for continued engagement to promote peace.

As of July 30, 2025, a total of 190,104 evacuees are being housed in 780 shelters across seven provinces along the border. The situation remains delicate, and officials urge the public to stay informed and adhere to government instructions regarding safety measures and shelter stays.

In light of the ongoing tensions, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has banned drone flights in sensitive areas to protect national security. Violators of this ban face severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines.

Rear Admiral Surasan also addressed rumors circulating on social media, urging the public and media outlets to verify information through official channels to ensure accuracy and prevent misinformation.

The press conference highlighted a concerted effort from various Thai government departments to manage the situation effectively and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens amid the ongoing border tensions.
