Cambodian Teenagers Stir Turmoil at Ta Muen Thom Temple, Nearing Confrontation with Thai Soldiers

Surin: Cambodian teenagers sparked a disturbance at Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Surin Province, engaging in provocative behavior towards Thai individuals and soldiers, nearly leading to a physical altercation. Soldiers intervened swiftly to diffuse the situation.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded around 11:10 a.m. on July 21 when a group of Cambodian youths confronted Thais at the temple site. The teenagers were seen pacing around with peculiar expressions, eventually encountering three southern Thai visitors. The interaction quickly escalated into a verbal conflict, poised to turn physical, until soldiers from both sides intervened to separate the parties involved.

A southern Thai tourist recounted feeling provoked by the Cambodian youths’ demeanor. He expressed readiness to react, not being constrained by military orders. The situation attracted attention when a contingent of ten soldiers from the Army Air Defense Command (ADC) arrived at the location. A notable incident involved a stern soldier who previously pushed a Thai soldier’s chest.

Additionally, a Cambodian woman named Monica reportedly hurried to the site, closely observing the scene until the ADC soldiers departed. Subsequently, the same strict soldier facilitated a tour for Cambodian tourists, who observed from inside the castle, contrasting with the previous day when they refrained due to the presence of numerous Thai tourists.

The armymilitaryforcenews page highlighted the provocative behavior of the Cambodian teenagers, including instances of them deliberately staring at Thai people and soldiers in an irritating manner. A shared clip captured the youths not only exchanging hostile looks but also making offensive gestures, such as raising their middle fingers.
