Cambodian Villagers Clash with Thai Soldiers at Sa Kaeo Border

Sa kaeo: “Ban Nong Chan” is in chaos as Cambodians invade and dismantle the barbed wire fence and throw objects at Thai soldiers. Tensions are high at the Sa Kaeo border as Cambodians tear down barbed wire fences and throw objects at officials in the Ban Nong Chan area, injuring one Thai soldier. The First Army Region clarified that the incident was a misunderstanding on the part of the Cambodian side.

According to Thai News Agency, the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border in Ban Nong Chan, Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, remains tense. Cambodian officials have issued a loudspeaker announcement calling for villagers to gather in the disputed border area. Cambodian military, forestry, and land officials are also present.

When some villagers arrived, a minor riot broke out as some Cambodians stormed in and tore down the barbed wire fence that the Thais had erected to prevent intrusion. They also continued to throw objects at Thai officials, resulting in one Thai soldier being injured while on duty to control the situation.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that more and more Cambodian citizens are continuing to arrive, further escalating the tension. Thai troops have therefore deployed to secure the area to control the situation and prevent further escalation. Notably, the Cambodian side has been playing loud music, presumably a rousing anthem, to boost morale and motivate local residents. The music has been playing throughout the border area, putting pressure on Thai officials on duty.

The latest situation continues to be a confrontation between civilians and officials from both sides. Thai soldiers remain firmly in place, monitoring for potential clashes at any time. Local security forces are closely coordinating with the central government to report progress and prepare contingency measures.

The First Army Region has clarified the issue of Cambodian villagers dismantling the barbed wire fence. The First Army Region recently clarified the temporary barbed wire incident at Ban Nong Chan on August 25, 2025, at 3:00 PM. They confirmed that the temporary barbed wire incident at Ban Nong Chan today was not the original barbed wire line that the Burapha Force had already laid to provide security for the unit’s location and personnel.

However, the barbed wire incident this afternoon was separate from the original barbed wire line. The temporary barbed wire line was installed today to provide security for the Sa Kaeo Province survey team as they surveyed land in the Ban Nong Chan area. However, Cambodian villagers did not understand the situation and expressed dissatisfaction.

When the incident occurred, the Burapha Force entered into a dialogue with the Cambodian villagers to gain understanding. After the inspection of the area by the Sa Kaeo Province team was completed, the Burapha Force proceeded to restore the area to its original condition.

The First Army Region would like to confirm that this incident was a misunderstanding on the part of Cambodia. The Thai side has discussed and explained that the operation was carried out with caution, within the framework of law and international relations, to prevent the situation from escalating and maintain peace and order in the country.
