Bangkok: “Chai Chana” is confident in his qualifications, not a lightning rod predicting the removal of the Prime Minister. Mr. Chaichana Dejdecho, newly appointed Deputy Minister of Public Health, shared his sentiments about transitioning from a legislative to an executive role, emphasizing his commitment to serving the public effectively. He mentioned his familiarity with political life, having been an MP for two terms and observing his parents’ political careers.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaichana highlighted his plans to discuss work division within the Ministry of Public Health upon his arrival at the ministry. He intends to support government policies, particularly focusing on health care frameworks already established by the Minister of Public Health. He also aims to promote the Prime Minister’s soft power policy by initiating an MOU with local administrative bodies for Thai massage training and export, and to enhance treatment facilities for drug addicts in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Addressing the cannabis policy, Mr. Chaichana expressed the need to distinguish between its medical and recreational usage, advocating for a non-political perspective on the matter. He reaffirmed his confidence in his ministerial qualifications, citing the absence of any legal impediments and adherence to the necessary formalities, trusting the Thai justice system to address any issues that may arise.
Regarding speculation about political instability, Mr. Chaichana dismissed concerns about his role being a catalyst for the Prime Minister’s removal. He reiterated his focus on urgent government policies, such as combating e-cigarettes and drugs, while ensuring the Ministry of Public Health remains free from malpractice.
When questioned about potential shifts in political alliances in the event of a leadership change, Mr. Chaichana stated his lack of knowledge about such developments but confirmed the Democrat Party’s continued cooperation with the Pheu Thai Party in government.
