Bangkok: Chaiya Promma was elected as the first Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives without any competition, declaring his readiness to collaborate with all parties to make the House of Representatives a place of refuge for the people. The House of Representatives meeting, chaired by Speaker Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, considered and voted to select a person to serve as First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, replacing Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan, who was removed from office by the Constitutional Court.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong Thianthong, MP for Sa Kaeo, Pheu Thai Party, proposed only the name of Mr. Chaiya Promma, MP for Nong Bua Lamphu, Pheu Thai Party. Mr. Chaiya then presented his vision to the House meeting, thanking the Speaker and members for entrusting him with the role of First Vice Speaker. He affirmed that he would utilize his knowledge, skills, and experience in politics throughout his career for the benefit of this House. He emphasized that the legislature is an important mechanism, on par with the executive branch. Mr. Chaiya has been part of this House for a long time, having navigated various political situations throughout the ages. He hoped to see this legislature continue to be a source of refuge for the people.
Mr. Chaiya emphasized that while serving as First Vice Speaker, he hoped to see cooperation and solidarity, regardless of whether it be from the opposition or the government. He expressed his desire to see the institution as a source of support for the people and in the national interest, without political conflict. He assured members that, despite being affiliated with the Pheu Thai Party, he would remain neutral, foster trust, be fair, and provide equal treatment to all members. He urged members to be open to the task.
According to the meeting regulations, if only one person is nominated, no vote is required and Mr. Chaiya is considered to have been elected as the first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
