Nonthaburi: The Department of Rural Roads has announced the completion of the Chaiyaphruek Road expansion in Nonthaburi Province. This significant development expands the road to 10 lanes, aligning with the long-term transportation infrastructure development strategy aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and supporting sustainable growth in the Bangkok-Nonthaburi-Pathum Thani area.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Montri Dechasakulsom, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, shared that Chaiyaphruek Road previously operated as a 6-lane road, handling a traffic volume exceeding 40,000 vehicles per day. The road frequently experienced heavy traffic, with congestion expected to worsen. The opening of Ratchaphruek Road – Kanchanaphisek Road (north-south) provided a quicker and more convenient connection to Pathum Thani Province, increasing the traffic on Chaiyaphruek Road. The expanded road aims to efficiently accommodate public use, aligning with the policy of Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport. It addresses traffic congestion issues and facilitates smoother travel for those commuting out of the city during rush hours. The expansion also anticipates future traffic volumes, enhancing Chaiyaphruek Road’s potential for sustainable use.
The Director-General further elaborated that the project involves constructing a 2-lane parallel road in each direction from the ramp of Rama IV Bridge to the Ratchaphruek Road interchange. Additionally, it includes road surface expansion by one lane per direction from the Ratchaphruek Road interchange to Bang Kruai – Sai Noi Road, covering a total distance of 6.892 kilometers. The project features the construction of four bridges over Khlong Phra Udom and Khlong Bang Phum, alongside the development of footpaths, drainage systems, and lighting systems, with a construction budget of 902 million baht.
