The Tourism and Creative Economy Office of Jakarta activated the Cikini Walking Tour on Thursday as a part of the efforts focused on regional-based tourism development.
The walking tour was a collaboration with Jakarta-owned firm PT Jakarta Tourisindo, or also known as the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB), by inviting some associations of tour agents.
The Office’s Head of Marketing and Attraction Hari Wibowo remarked that the activation was still under trial. Wibowo noted that the Jakarta Tourism Office plans to launch and open the Cikini Walking Tour to the public in the near future.
“We also consider the policy from the central (government) and how to handle the period of Christmas and New Year. However, clearly, Jakarta is ready to wake up and move forward,” Wibowo told reporters here on Thursday.
The office head remarked that the Cikini Walking Tour was inspired by the public demand to tour Cikini, Central Jakarta, as the area already has attractive historic infrastructure and destinations to draw local and foreign tourists.
The Cikini Walking Tour will take its participants to explore the Gedung Joang ’45, Ismail Marzuki Park, Bakoel Koffie, Tjanang Ice Cream, Tan Ek Tjoan bakery, Ahmad Soebardjo (the first Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister) House, and famous painter Raden Saleh’s Mansion.
Wibowo noted that the Cikini Walking Tour had been readied since September by inviting several travel agencies and hotel industry players in Cikini to finalize the tour’s concept.
“The travel agents and hoteliers are harboring huge optimism (for this tour),” he noted.
Furthermore, the Jakarta Tourism Office plans to start another walking tour in the Kota Tua (Old Town) area in Menteng and Pasar Baru.
Meanwhile, the Event and Product Specialist of PT Jakarta Tourisindo, Muhammad Rayhan Islamy, noted that the walking tour program will be built on two concepts: exploring historical destinations on foot and scouting several attractions by riding integrated public transportation, such as MRT, TransJakarta, and LRT.
For the walking tour at Kota Tua, his team will take tourists to explore museums and urban heritage sites with the concept of experience.
Hence, Wibowo expressed optimism that the Cikini Walking Tour would become a new attraction for tourists and bolster post-pandemic economic recovery through the tourism sector.
