Clashes Continue for Fourth Day in Nam Yuen District Amid Heightened Security Measures

Ubon ratchathani: The clashes in Nam Yuen District have entered their fourth day, with gunfire resonating throughout the area. Village Defense Volunteers (VDP) and community leaders have intensified patrols following rumors of suspects possibly hiding within the community.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Interior Ms. Thirat Rattanawanich shared concerns from villagers about the safety of their property and reported possible infiltration by Cambodian spies. In response, she instructed the VDP and community leaders to mobilize and secure the village through increased inspections.

The news team, alongside community leaders, visited the clash site to observe the heightened security measures. Officials are focusing on patrolling, protecting, and securing the area per provincial policy. They are also vigilant in identifying suspicious individuals who may exploit the situation, either by stealing from immigrants’ homes or acting as spies.

A community leader emphasized that after receiving the reports, he mobilized Village Defense Volunteers across the region to maintain peace, order, and safety. Patrols are actively checking people and vehicles, undeterred by recent heavy rains.

The news team also visited an evacuation center in Ubon Ratchathani Province, where many people, including children, have taken refuge, leading to missed school days. Officers at the center organized activities like ‘Send Fun Flour’ to entertain and lift the spirits of children and their families.

The evacuation center has also coordinated educational resources, including a science car to impart knowledge and coloring activities to stimulate imagination and alleviate stress. The center’s caretaker highlighted the importance of learning activities for children, with plans to adapt long-term educational strategies if the clashes persist.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious individuals to the police and community leaders immediately. Those not involved in the situation are advised to evacuate for safety, as artillery fire continues to echo throughout the day.
