Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno called to collectively maintain, campaign, and monitor the application of health protocols at all tourism destinations and creative economy centers for the revival of this sector.
“The solution for the revival of tourism is only one, specifically COVID-19 handling,” Uno noted during an online discussion held by the COVID-19 handling task force observed from here on Wednesday.
The minister remarked that the government could not singlehandedly monitor health protocols and necessitated involvement of public and religious figures, influencers, and social media users.
The government continues to disseminate information and edify regarding strict health protocols at tourism destinations, he stated.
Meanwhile, Uno remarked that his group had also facilitated safety and health guarantees for tourism destinations with the Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) certification that is integrated with the PeduliLindungi application.
The minister spoke of his group also pushing for expediting vaccination in tourism villages, primary tourism destinations, and creative economy centers.
The minister pointed to economic recovery in the tourism and creative economy sectors within the last fortnight.
“In several regions, the COVID-19 situation is showing improvement. Our programs, such as staycation, activities in tourism villages, outdoor activities, and trekking, have started to record increased participation,” he stated.
“Bali is also starting to receive an influx of tourists, and we expect that hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers will become occupied soon,” he elaborated.
However, Uno emphasized that all parties should remain careful in applying strict health protocols to prevent the surfacing of COVID-19 clusters at tourism destinations.
According to the minister, the tourism sector really requires support in order to revive since it is most impacted by COVID-19.
He highlighted that at least two million players in the tourism and creative economy sectors were impacted by the pandemic and 34 million jobs that depend on income from this sector were affected.
