Surin: The Commander of Army Region 2 has expressed condolences following the death of Private Phithuyut Soda. Private Phithuyut, also known as “Nong Yak” on social media, was stationed at Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Surin Province, where he passed away from a chronic illness while on duty.
According to Thai News Agency, Private Phithuyut, who was part of the 23rd Battalion, 4th Battalion, had gained attention for a prior argument with a Cambodian woman named Monica. He died on August 23, 2015, after collapsing in the bathroom of the Prasat Ta Muen Thom base. Fellow soldiers reported that Private Phithuyut had a history of a chronic illness and had previously been hospitalized for vomiting blood but chose to continue his duties.
Despite being advised to rest, Private Phithuyut remained committed to his duties, citing concern for his fellow soldiers amid ongoing tensions. His unexpected death has saddened his colleagues and prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media.
Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, extended his sympathies to Private Phithuyut’s family. He confirmed that the soldier’s death was related to his ongoing commitment to protecting the Thai-Cambodian border, despite no recent clashes at the location. The commander assured that Private Phithuyut would receive full personnel rights due to his active border duty.
