Constitutional Court Orders Investigation into ‘Phandil-MPs of the People’ Signatures and Evidence

Bangkok: The Constitutional Court has mandated that the House Speaker investigate the signatures of the “Phanthil-MPs” group and provide additional evidence related to a petition aimed at impeaching “Pichet” for budget amendments in his own area. This examination and evidence submission must occur within seven days before a decision is made on whether to accept the ruling.

According to Thai News Agency, the Constitutional Court reviewed a petition involving Mr. Phanthil Nuamchem, MP for Bangkok from the Prachachon Party, along with 121 MPs. The petitioners, forming no less than one-tenth of the House of Representatives, requested the Constitutional Court’s consideration based on Section 144, paragraph three of the Constitution. The case centers around Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who allegedly approved projects and budget submissions in which he was involved for the fiscal year 2025.

The petition also notes that the Office of the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives has sought to resubmit these projects for the 2026 fiscal budget, mirroring the 2025 format. This move, allegedly involving Mr. Pichet in proposal and amendment actions, is claimed to violate Section 144, paragraph two of the Constitution.

The Constitutional Court, upon reviewing the petition and related documents, has determined that further examination of the petitioner’s signatures and additional document submission is necessary. The President of the Assembly has been instructed to conduct this examination and send the required documents to the Constitutional Court within seven days of receiving the directive.
