Ubon ratchathani: The NBTC has agreed for the 2nd Army to close border checkpoints and tourist attractions in 4 southern Isan provinces starting tomorrow (July 24) after the latest incident where a Thai soldier stepped on a landmine and lost his leg.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on the Thai-Cambodian border, and the latest update from the Center for Special Operations in the Administration of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation (CSOPA) has confirmed its occurrence. The Second Army Region has consulted with CSOPA to request permission to close checkpoints in the areas under its responsibility, namely Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, and Buriram. This action is a protest against Cambodia over the illegal laying of landmines, which CSOPA has approved.
Additionally, a protest letter will be sent using the RBC mechanism, and a report will be made to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for further protest. The closures will be enforced starting tomorrow, with all border checkpoints in the 4 southern Isan provinces of Thailand being closed after setting specific opening and closing times. Tourist attractions such as the three castles, Ta Muen Thom, Ta Muen Tod, and Ta Kwai, will also be closed.
