Bangkok: Cyber police are moving forward with the case involving a leaked audio clip of a conversation between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodian leader Samdech Hun Sen. The authorities are preparing to present the case to the Attorney General on July 14, with an aim to prosecute Hun Sen under the security law.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Sirawat Deepo, Commander of Technology Crime Investigation Division 1 (TCSD 1), disclosed progress in the case initiated by Mr. Somkid Chuekong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs. He filed a complaint with the Technology Crime Investigation Division to take legal action against Hun Sen.
The controversy began when a 17.6-second audio clip featuring a conversation between Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Hun Sen was leaked. The content of the clip is said to have caused division among the Thai populace.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Sirawat stated that the Cyber Police investigators will submit the case to the Attorney General on July 14. The case is being treated as an extraterritorial offense under Article 116 of the Criminal Code, which addresses actions that threaten the internal security of the Kingdom, as well as a violation of the Computer Crime Act.
At this time, only one individual has been prosecuted, but further investigations are underway to identify others involved in the distribution and sharing of the audio clip.
