Da Nang: Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha announced the Master Plan for the central city of Da Nang, positioning it as a pivotal hub for urban growth, innovation, and international coastal and port development. The announcement was made at a ceremony in Da Nang on November 25, outlining the city’s development roadmap for 2021-2030 with a vision extending to 2050.
According to Vietnam News Agency, Da Nang has experienced impressive growth over the past decades. The new Master Plan aims to catalyze the city’s evolution into a centre of innovation, trade, finance, logistics, high-technology industries, supportive industries, information technology, and a regional powerhouse in sea and port-based economy.
Ha emphasized the plan’s potential to unlock new opportunities for socio-economic expansion, leveraging the city’s sea and air ports, high-tech, innovation, logistics, international finance hub, and eco-tourism. He urged Da Nang to accelerate administrative reforms and e-Government implementation to establish a ‘smart’ urban area with a focus on ‘green’ growth, a circular economy, and a digital economy.
The Deputy Prime Minister called for the adoption of ‘green’ standards to attract investments in renewable energy and high technology. He highlighted the importance of economic linkages with neighboring provinces and cities and stressed the need for Da Nang to prioritize human resource education and technology applications, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing and processing industries.
Da Nang’s approach to sustainable development should include a strong focus on biodiversity protection, ecological system preservation, and climate change resilience, especially in the face of rising sea levels.
Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, indicated that the Master Plan will guide Da Nang in achieving new development targets, particularly in key areas such as tourism, IT, environmentally-friendly waste treatment, and renewable energy. The city is set to commence the construction of the new Lien Chieu Port, envisioned as a national integrated port and an international-standard logistics center for Vietnam, ASEAN, and the Asia Pacific region.
During the ceremony, the Da Nang People’s Committee awarded investment licenses to seven projects, with a combined value exceeding 9.3 trillion VND (approximately 372 million USD).
