Bangkok: The DE Board has taken a significant step in advancing Thailand’s digital future by approving smart cities and establishing AI mechanisms aimed at driving the country forward.
According to Thai News Agency, the government reiterates its support for the digital economy, with the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (DE Board) endorsing the nation’s data policy and strategy for the next three years. This strategy is designed to serve as a framework for transitioning Thailand into a stable and sustainable digital economy and society. The meeting, chaired by Mr. Prasert Chantarawongthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, focused on several key areas.
The data strategy outlined by the DE Board centers on four main areas: developing data infrastructure, improving data governance and service quality, promoting data use and exchange, and enhancing workforce skills in digital data to meet national needs. Additionally, a National Committee on Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been formed to drive the AI Action Plan, which focuses on developing human resources and technology, fostering economic growth, and creating positive social and environmental impacts.
In a related move, the DE Board approved the renewal of the Smart City logo for 16 cities and awarded a new Smart Area logo to the “Phuket Tinicon Valley” project. This recognition highlights progress in leveraging digital technology to improve quality of life. The meeting also addressed public internet network management, approving principles for the Pracharat Net Network based on the Open Access Network concept, and tasked the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (NDC) with its implementation.
Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, emphasized the government’s commitment to developing digital infrastructure, smart cities, and AI technologies. She stated that these initiatives are intended to create economic opportunities, enhance Thailand’s competitiveness, and improve the quality of life for all citizens, collectively moving towards a stable and sustainable digital future.
