Jakarta (ANTARA) – The deliberation of the bill on domestic workers protection(PPRTBill) at the House of Representatives (DPR) has been postponed, according to DPR Speaker Puan Maharani.
In a statement issued on Thursday, she said that a DPR leadership meeting on August 21, 2021, had decided to postpone bringing the bill to a meeting of the Deliberative Body (Bamus).
“The leaders at the meeting agreed to first look at the situation and conditions. At that time, it was felt that it was not appropriate to schedule it for a Bamus meeting and it still needed further elaboration,” she remarked.
Regarding this decision, Maharani said that the PPRT Bill could not be brought to the DPR plenary meeting to be ratified as a DPR initiative bill, as it had not been discussed at the Bamus meeting.
“Therefore, the PPRT bill has not yet been put on the agenda at the Bamus meeting to be scheduled at a plenary meeting for approval as a draft proposed by the DPR,” she explained.
Maharani elaborated that the discussion on legislation must follow the existing mechanism to be brought to a plenary meeting, and the PPRT Bill must first be discussed in a deliberative body (Bamus) meeting.
“According to the rules, before being brought to a plenary meeting, it must first obtain approval at a Bamus meeting,” she emphasized.
Nonetheless, Maharani said the DPR would consider public input and always be heedful of the people’s aspirations, including in forming legislation.
“DPR will consider the aspirations of the people by taking into account the current situation and conditions,” she stated.
Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated on Monday (Feb 27) that the PPRT Bill would be discussed again after the recess period was over.
“Recess ends on March 13, 2023, and we will schedule a meeting of the leaders and deliberative bodies,” he said.
