Deputy Prime Minister Inspects Samsen Road Collapse Repairs to Meet October 8 Deadline

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, accompanied by Mr. Chaiyatham Promsorn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, visited the site of the Samsen Road collapse in front of Vajira Hospital to assess the ongoing repair efforts. The collapse, which took place on the morning of September 24th, prompted immediate action to restore the road by October 8.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Montri Dechasakulsom, Chairman of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), along with Mr. Kajpajon Udomthampakdee, Governor of the MRTA, and representatives from the civil engineering contractor for the Purple Line project, were present to provide updates on the repair progress. Mr. Pipat conveyed that Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, has shown deep concern over the incident, urging collaborative efforts to ensure the road’s safety is reinstated within the stipulated 14-day period.

The civil engineering team has made si
gnificant headway, having poured concrete into the affected area by the evening of September 27th. The plan now involves waiting for the concrete to set, followed by reinforcing the sides with sprayed concrete to prevent further erosion, and finally filling the area with sand by September 30th, 2025.

At the Samsen Police Station, monitoring equipment has shown no unusual activity, and efforts to stabilize the soil with liquid concrete are underway. Approximately 1,200 cubic meters of concrete has been utilized in this endeavor. Despite recent light rain, the project remains on schedule, with contingency measures such as water pumps and sandbags in place to counter potential weather disruptions.

Moreover, the safe removal of materials, including electrical poles and transformers, is being conducted with careful oversight to ensure personnel safety. Affected residents have been contacted and provided temporary accommodation during the repair process.

All stakeholders are committed to conducting a thorough ri
sk assessment and formulating contingency plans to safeguard the project’s timeline and integrity. The Ministry of Transport will continue to monitor developments and keep the public informed. For additional details, the MRTA can be reached at their website or via the MRTA Call Center.
