Bangkok: Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group) has won the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2025 for the fourth consecutive time in two significant categories: Green Leadership and Investment in People. The recognition highlights EGCO Group’s dedication to sustainable business practices and its commitment to mitigating climate change while enhancing energy and environmental education among youth.
According to Thai News Agency, EGCO Group’s Assistant Managing Director of Power Plant Management, Mr. Wichan Sripairoj, emphasized the company’s focus on the power and related energy sectors under an ESG framework that has been in place for 33 years. EGCO Group aims to transition into a low-carbon organization through a phased approach. The short-term goal involves increasing renewable energy’s share to 30% of total production capacity by 2030. The medium-term goal seeks carbon neutrality by 2040, and the long-term goal is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. These goals are part of EGCO Group’s strategy to address global climate change and facilitate the energy industry’s shift toward clean energy.
In community and social development, EGCO Group leverages its power industry expertise to foster energy and environmental understanding among youth. This effort is exemplified by the Khanom Power Plant Learning Center in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, which has attracted over 80,000 visitors since its inception in 2019. The center has been actively expanding its initiatives and partnerships to enhance societal impact, including hosting exhibitions at national science events and organizing annual science fairs. The center’s 2024 ‘Science Innovation, Changing the World’ exhibition drew over 20,000 visitors and received high satisfaction ratings. It collaborates with the National Science Museum to advance knowledge in energy, science, and technology.
Mr. Wichan remarked on the significance of receiving the AREA 2025 awards as a testament to EGCO Group’s commitment to fostering a low-carbon society and promoting energy and environmental education for youth. This aligns with EGCO Group’s vision of being a leading Thai company that operates sustainably with a focus on environmental and social development.
The AREA Awards are organized by Enterprise Asia, a prominent NGO that fosters entrepreneurship with an emphasis on social and environmental responsibility in Asia. EGCO Group’s previous AREA accolades include the 2023 award for its ‘Energy Teacher’ online training course, which empowers educators to enhance energy education using digital tools. In 2022, EGCO Group received the Green Leadership award for its ‘EGCO Ecosystem’ waste management initiative. The 2021 award recognized the ‘Khanom Power Plant Learning Center’ project, which offers out-of-classroom learning on electricity and power generation, fostering coexistence between power plants, communities, and the environment.
