National Police ChiefListyo Sigit Prabowo has asked his ranks to ensure public convenience while securing the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.”I need to emphasize that in ensuring the security of the 2023 ASEAN Summit, we must also pay attention to the comfort of the local community,” he said here on Saturday. He made the statement in view of the route diversion and counterflow traffic engineering that the police plan to apply at several locations to ease transportation for heads of state of ASEAN nations as well as other invited delegates during the international event. In addition, some of the deployed personnel will use residents’ homes for accommodation. The police chief also urged personnel to maintain good interaction and communication with the community since, through good communication, the public is expected to fully support the police in securing the summit, which will take place from May 911, 2023. “Because the 2023 ASEAN Summit is crucial to generate strategic decisions and encourage economic growth in the Southeast Asian region, and certainly, it will also provide a multiplier effect in Labuan Bajo, NTT, and Indonesia in general,” he remarked. Furthermore, Prabowo urged all personnel to maintain their good impression and avoid any act that could hurt the reputation of the institution. “Always be a figure who is close to and loved by the public,” he stressed. The National Police and the Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) have held a gathering of security force personnel deployed for the 42nd ASEAN Summit, who will be on duty from May 7 to 13. Earlier, NTT Regional Police Chief Inspector General Johanis Asadomaappealed to people in West Manggarai District to maintain security and order in the community and not spread hoaxes and hate speech, which can mislead the public during the summit. The representatives of local religious figures, community leaders, associations, and organizations, have made a declaration on supporting and safeguarding the ASEAN Summit in collaboration with the regional government and police.
