Buriram: EOD teams have been actively searching and recovering rockets in the Buriram and Sisaket areas following multiple reports from villagers who have repeatedly sighted them.
According to Thai News Agency, the EOD units have been conducting thorough inspections in various locations, including a rubber plantation in the Sai Taku Subdistrict, Ban Kruat District of Buriram Province. They discovered shrapnel and craters resembling those created by BM21 rockets. Authorities are continuing their investigations while advising the public to remain cautious. Villagers, particularly those who have recently returned to their homes, remain apprehensive about the ongoing situation, especially after an incident where a soldier became the fifth person to step on a landmine.
In Sisaket Province, EOD officers were dispatched to border areas in the Kantharalak District to examine artillery shells found in Sao Thong Chai and Phu Pha Mok subdistricts. Seven sites were identified, predominantly in rubber plantations and near residential areas. The majority of these shells were identified as 100mm artillery shells. Although many had exploded and left debris, an unexploded 130mm shell was found in the Phu Pha Mok subdistrict. Authorities have taken measures to secure the area by placing warning signs and restricting access to ensure public safety.
The ICRC Regional Office has also been engaged in Sisaket Province, visiting the Kantharalak District to gather data on the impact of recent clashes. They have been assessing the damage and collecting information from vulnerable groups. The team also visited a gas station in Ban Phue that was struck by a BM-21 rocket, resulting in casualties. Their aim is to gather comprehensive information from victims’ relatives and local business owners to formulate effective humanitarian relief and protection strategies.
Meanwhile, in Sisaket Province, a nail and eyelash salon near the Ban Phue gas station has resumed operations. The salon, which is located just 20 meters from where the bomb hit, had closed temporarily after the incident, causing a loss of income for the owner. With the gas station now operational, the salon has reopened, with the owner waiving rent for three months or until the completion of the neighboring 7-Eleven store.
