Ethical officials can help boost public trust: police chief

Jakarta (ANTARA) – National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has emphasized the importance of preparing quality human resources who have ethical competence to increase public trust in police.”It is about how can we prepare our human resources. I always say that technical competence is not enough, that we must also have leadership skills, and the most important is ethical competence,” he said here on Saturday. He highlighted President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) directive to the police to carry out national and international agendas in order to boost public trust in Polri. “Recently, Mr. President had conveyed the agendas at a military-police (TNI-Polri) leadership meeting, and from the human resources side, (we should) prepare personnel who can implement the President’s policy,” the Polri chief said. Prabowo also highlighted Widodo’s directive to all ministries/institutions, including the National Police, to anticipate inflation, help strengthen investment and downstreaming, and prevent criminal acts that can damage the environment. The President also asked Polri to be ready for the 2024 General Elections and the uncertain global situation as well as the upcoming U-20 World Cup, Indonesia’s ASEAN chairmanship, and other developing social issues. Moreover, the head of state asked the police to help monitor policy programs to maintain economic growth in the country. The programs include helping ensure and maintain the availability and prices of essential goods, state finance as a shock absorber, and the domestic market. Taking note of the many agendas and challenges, Prabowo invited all ranks of the Bhayangkara (police) corps to unite and collaborate to gain the highest level of public trust. ccording to him, a high level of public trust would have an impact on satisfaction in problem-solving and decision-making while on duty. “Efforts to restore public trust are a matter that we must fight for undoubtedly,” the police chief said.
