Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo has said that he expects agricultural students to continue to innovate in the food sector to help Indonesia’s agriculture sector become competitive and dominate the world market.
“We have to improve our ability to perform our functions and roles. Students must be able to develop innovation and be ready to compete. Likewise, lecturers must keep honing their teaching skills,” Limpo said here on Tuesday.
The minister asked students to take quick steps to create innovations that benefit the progress of Indonesia’s agricultural sector. Students must adapt and face all kinds of challenges that grow rapidly, he added.
Delivering a public lecture at the Gowa Agricultural Development Polytechnic (Polbangtan), South Sulawesi, Limpo expressed the hope that graduates will become great human resources and help the country’s agricultural commodities dominate the global market. Indonesia is a country that has fertile lands that can support large-scale agricultural production, he added.
Furthermore, he said he expected Gowa Polbangtan to continue to carry out the three pillars of higher education in the Ministry of Agriculture’s main programs: increasing exports, improving farmers’ welfare, and building new entrepreneurs in the agriculture sector.
“Therefore, we expect that Gowa Polbangtan students will work hard in becoming advanced, independent, and modern millennial farmers,” Limpo added.
Meanwhile, the director of Gowa Polbangtan, Syaifuddin, said his team is currently continuing to make improvements in a structured manner, starting from educational services to learning methods.
“Alhamdullilah (Thank God), our coaching is more practical than theoretical. Our next activity is to perfect the continuing education program. We are improving the quality of lecturers by teaching them to provide good knowledge to students, and we are ready to implement all programs and plans prepared by the ministry,” Syaifuddin said.
