Bangkok: Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira has made a public call for Cambodia to halt violence immediately, emphasizing the need for diplomatic negotiations to foster sustainable economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. His statement, released through a Facebook post, highlights the urgency of ending hostilities to protect civilian lives and properties.
According to Thai News Agency, Minister Chunhavajira stressed the importance of prioritizing the welfare of people from both countries. He urged the Cambodian government to stop violent actions, which have endangered civilians in areas such as hospitals, schools, gas stations, and convenience stores. These attacks constitute a serious breach of international law, including the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law.
The minister warned that continued aggression could undermine Cambodia’s international reputation and economic opportunities. He expressed concern about the Cambodian leadership’s credibility, citing ongoing attacks on Thailand. Minister Chunhavajira underscored that peace is essential for growth and that respecting human life is foundational to achieving long-term peace.
