First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo called for assertive actions against perpetrators of immoral acts on children while stressing to impose severe punishments on them.
“The law must act toughly, and the perpetrators must be sentenced based on their crimes,” Widodo noted in her written statement after attending a meeting of survivors of moral abusers at the Great Hall of Social Welfare Education and Training (BBPPKS) in West Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday.
Widodo and Second Lady Wury Ma’ruf Amin, along with members of the Solidarity Action Organization of the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet Era (OASE KIM), held a meeting with the survivors of immoral acts by felons in Bandung.
In the presence of psychologists, as many as 12 survivors and one witness conversed with Iriana Joko Widodo and Wury Ma’ruf Amin at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the First Lady expressed grief over the incidents that the survivors experienced and hoped that such incidents would not recur.
“I, as a woman, am very sick, very hurt. I hope there are no other victims,” Widodo affirmed.
Furthermore, she noted that the survivors attending the meeting were in a stable condition. The survivors also expressed their happiness on being visited by the First Lady and Second Lady.
At the meeting, Widodo and Amin were accompanied by Chairwoman of OASE KIM, Erni Tjahjo Kumolo, and West Java Governor’s wife, Atalia Praratya Kamil.
Earlier, during her visit to Bandung, Widodo reviewed the implementation of COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 6-11 years at the Sukarasa 196 Elementary School and offered some social aid to the community.
Widodo and Amin along with their entourage have returned to Jakarta via the Indonesian Air Force Base Husein Sastranegara, Bandung, on Tuesday noon.
