Floods in three hamlets of Kabul Village, Southwest Praya Sub-district, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, forced dozens of families to shift to safety, according to an official.

The flooding, which followed incessant and heavy rains accompanied by strong wind, submerged houses of at least 50 families in Kabul, Central Lombok District Head Lalu Pathul Bahr informed.

“Some residents have taken refuge in mosques,” he said while inspecting the flooded hamlets in Kabul village on Thursday night (November 4, 2021).

“We need to distribute rice, blanket instant noodles, and other relief aid,” he added.

Floodwaters reaching up to the height of an adult’s knee swamped the three hamlets, notably Kending Sampí, Pampang, and Kangas Lauq, he informed.

The West Nusa Tenggara Social Affairs Office has distributed assistance in the form of blankets, mattresses, sandals, and cleaning equipment to residents affected by the flooding, he said.

“Hopefully, this assistance can be used by residents for a while, while waiting for additional assistance,” head of the Natural Disaster Social Protection Section of the West Nusa Tenggara Social Service, Chandra, said.

Central Lombok Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Head H Ridwan Mahruf said that BPBD officers have been deployed to help residents affected by the flood.

“Hopefully, the water will recede soon,” he said, adding that the flood did not cause any casualties.

Meanwhile, in Batu, Malang District, East Java Province, flash floods claimed five lives and rendered four residents missing.
