Narathiwat: Former civil servants who once served him are deeply saddened. A former civil servant who once served the country mourns the loss of a royal silk gift from Her Majesty the Queen Mother, who has kept it as a keepsake for over 38 years.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Saiyut Chansawang, a former civil servant at the Narathiwat Provincial Agricultural Office, who had the opportunity to work closely with Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, at the Ban Khlong Rae Arts and Crafts Center, Village No. 3, Bare Tai Subdistrict, Ba Cho District, Narathiwat Province, from 1985 to 1990, spoke with a trembling voice that upon hearing the news of Her Majesty’s passing, she was shocked and deeply saddened, as she was the “Mother of the Land” and a sheltering figure for the Thai people.
He also revealed the story of how His Majesty bestowed silk to civil servants who had the opportunity to serve him since 1987, and that he still holds it with great reverence. He doesn’t use it, but he often looks at it to remember its grace. His Majesty regularly visits Thaksin Ratchaniwet Palace in Narathiwat Province every September and October, promoting arts and crafts projects that provide livelihoods for the people, such as the Yan Lipao bag-making group, which provides additional income for local families. He works very hard, sometimes staying up until 1 or 2 a.m. to visit women’s groups in the village and observe their work. He truly cares for his fellow citizens.
