G20 schedule: Ministry to open DEWG forum next week

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics plans to hold the opening ceremony of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) forum next week on Monday, March 15.

“The DEWG kick-off meeting will be attended by the Indonesia Maju cabinet ministers as well as global knowledge partners comprising many international institutions, including the UNESCAP, ITU, UNCTAD, and OECD,” the ministry’s spokesperson, Dedy Permadi, told ANTARA here on Friday.

Permadi explained that the DEWG kick-off meeting, scheduled on March 15, will be held in a face-to-face setting in Jakarta.

After the opening ceremony, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, as the DEWG leader, will open a workshop to further discuss the proclaimed priority issues.

According to Permadi, Indonesia has sent invitations to 25 countries, including G20 member countries, to attend the workshop.

The DEWG is part of the Indonesian G20 Sherpa Track. This engagement working group is a form of advancement from the Digital Economy Task Force (DETC), initiated by Indonesia with other G20 countries in 2021.

The main theme to be raised in DEWG is digital transformation that will be realized in three priority issues: digital connectivity and post-pandemic recovery; digital skills and literacy; and data flow across national borders.

DEWG meeting schedule

After the opening on March 15, the first session of DEWG will be held virtually from Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on March 29-30, while the second meeting will take place on May 17-18 in Yogyakarta in a hybrid format.

The ministry also plans the third session to take place in face-to-face format in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, on July 20-21. The last meeting of the DEWG will be held on-site in Bali on August 29-30, 2022. Results of the DEWG will be delivered or conveyed at the Digital Economy Minister’s Meeting.

G20 Heads of State and Government Summit will take place in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.
