General Nattapol Confirms Consideration of Term Extension for 2nd Army Area Commander

Bangkok: General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, has affirmed that he will consider the request to extend the term of Lieutenant General Boonsin Phadklang, the Commander of the Second Army Region. He emphasized the importance of careful deliberation to prevent any negative impact on the morale of junior officers, who are eager for advancement opportunities within the military ranks.

According to Thai News Agency, the request for Lt. Gen. Phadklang’s extension comes in the wake of concerns from citizens who are anxious about the security situation following the recent Thai-Cambodian conflict. General Nattapol acknowledged the demands from these concerned citizens, underscoring that he has taken their voices into account.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the necessity of considering the overall morale and career progression of subordinate officers. He recognized that during past conflicts, both the Second Army Region Commander and his team executed their duties proficiently. Therefore, any decision regarding the extension must weigh these factors to ensure a balanced outcome that supports the army’s operational effectiveness and the professional growth of its officers.

However, the proposal has faced some opposition from academic circles. Assistant Professor Dr. Wanwichit Boonprong, from the Faculty of Political Science at Rangsit University, expressed his disagreement with extending Lt. Gen. Phadklang’s term on his personal Facebook page. Dr. Boonprong advised the public to remain calm and vigilant, warning against being swayed by internal and external influences that might exploit the situation.
