GH Bank Introduces Urgent Measures to Aid Customers Affected by Thai-Cambodian Border Dispute

Bangkok: The Government Housing Bank (GHB) has swiftly implemented measures to assist customers impacted by the recent Thai-Cambodian border conflict, reducing interest rates to as low as 0.01% per annum for affected individuals.

According to Thai News Agency, the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Finance’s policy to mitigate the hardships faced by those affected by the border dispute, particularly following the unrest on July 24, 2025. This incident resulted in injuries and fatalities, deeply affecting the families and communities involved. Mr. Kamolpop Virapala, President of GHB, emphasized the bank’s commitment to its mission of providing homes for Thai citizens and supporting those in need during this challenging time.

The measures consist of three key components designed to provide financial relief to different categories of affected customers. For current customers who have suffered serious injuries or whose homes have been damaged, GHB will reduce the interest rate to 0.01% per annum for the first five years. From the sixth year onwards, the rate will be adjusted to MRR-0.75% for retail customers, MRR-1.00% for welfare customers, and MRR for those purchasing equipment or repaying debt.

For customers whose homes are rendered uninhabitable, or who have suffered permanent disability or death, the interest rate will be permanently reduced to 0.01% per annum for the duration of the contract. Additionally, customers in the affected areas who seek loans for constructing new buildings to replace damaged ones will benefit from an interest rate of 0% for the first six months, with a gradual increase over subsequent years.

Mr. Kamolpop also highlighted the bank’s concern for officials stationed at the border, announcing support for military units with essential goods to boost morale. He urged affected individuals to present evidence of damage to access the reduced interest rates and apply for new loans at any GHB branch nationwide.
