Government Confirms Continuous Monitoring of Thai-Cambodian Border Situation

Bangkok: The government has confirmed that the NBTC’s war room is actively monitoring the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border around the clock. This announcement follows reports that gunfire had decreased in intensity after successful talks between the Thai military and Cambodian commanders.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Committee (TCSC), led by Deputy Defense Minister General Nattapol Nakphanit, is serving as the central command to collect and assess information from all relevant sectors continuously. The Special Operations Center has been actively involved in these efforts, particularly following the ceasefire negotiations in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The NBTC will maintain constant surveillance across the seven border provinces and coordinate with government agencies and the media to disseminate information as necessary. Mr. Chirayu reported that meetings between military leaders from both countries have already taken place, leading to preliminary agreements, including an immediate ceasefire and a commitment to avoid civilian harm.

Further discussions resulted in agreements to establish a joint coordination team to address any issues, with additional meetings planned to solidify these arrangements. A ceasefire is set to take effect at midnight, with no movement of troops or weapons anticipated.

The government has scheduled an NCPO meeting to address key concerns, including monitoring potential ceasefire violations and preparing border shelters. The NBTC’s war room will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
