Bangkok: The government is accelerating the repair of houses and buildings damaged by recent clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border. A total of 701 houses have already been repaired as part of this urgent initiative.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that following the border clashes, the government has instructed all sectors to coordinate efforts and expedite assistance to affected residents. The efforts include inspecting and repairing damaged buildings and homes across seven provinces to ensure safe and secure living conditions. A survey revealed that out of 885 damaged homes, 701, accounting for 79.21%, have been successfully repaired.
The repairs have been distributed as follows: in Ubon Ratchathani Province, 148 houses were damaged, with 144 already repaired; in Sisaket Province, 498 houses were affected, with 360 repaired; in Surin Province, 224 houses were damaged, with 182 repaired; and in Buriram Province, all 15 damaged houses have been repaired.
Ms. Sasikarn further explained that alongside the repair efforts, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation under the Ministry of Interior has provided assistance and compensation to disaster victims. This includes financial support in cases of death and injury, totaling 90,466,022.57 baht. Specifically, for cases of death, payments amounting to 88,108,658.57 baht have been made to the families and heirs of 17 individuals, while 2,357,364 baht has been allocated for those injured.
Additionally, provincial authorities have utilized 201,371,391 baht from advance funds under the governor’s authority. This amount includes 2,952,600 baht for preventive measures and 198,418,791 baht for disaster relief efforts.
Ms. Sasikarn emphasized that the government is coordinating with various agencies to expedite comprehensive assistance to the residents of the seven affected border provinces. Continuous monitoring of the disaster’s progress is being conducted to alleviate the residents’ suffering. The government has directed relevant agencies to ensure the complete and timely repair and restoration of damaged homes, allowing disaster victims to return to their homes safely and promptly.
