Bangkok: Ms. Jiraporn Sindhuphrai, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, has announced the formation of a committee to tackle fraudulent business practices and pyramid schemes, following a directive from Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. The decision was made after discussions with six key agencies, aimed at curbing business fraud that impacts the economy and the public.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Ms. Jiraporn and included representatives from the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD), the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Ms. Jiraporn emphasized the government’s concern over the significant damage caused by deceptive business practices and pyramid schemes. The Prime Minister has prioritized urgent action to address these issues and develop long-term strategies to prevent future occur
rences.
Ms. Jiraporn stated that the meeting focused on establishing a committee or working group to create and implement preventive measures against fraudulent businesses. The goal is to proactively disrupt fraudulent business cycles to mitigate widespread damage. The Consumer Protection Board (CPB) has been tasked with reviewing past committee structures to guide the selection of appropriate personnel for this initiative. Additionally, she instructed the Office of National Reform, Strategy and Reconciliation (ONRP) to lead efforts in studying and amending relevant laws to align with current needs.
